President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that an operation is underway in the Belgorod region as part of efforts to counter Russian forces.

Speaking during a video conference with the Associated Press, Zelenskyy emphasized that as the enemy amasses troops for new attempts to breach Ukraine’s border, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are taking preemptive measures to prevent Russia from opening a new front on Ukrainian territory.

The enemy is massing troops along the border of the Sumy region in preparation for a major strike. In addition, it is building up forces near the border with the Kharkiv region and in the Zaporizhzhia sector, requiring the Ukrainian Defense Forces to adopt more flexible tactics.

“There is an operation there: some may think that someone retreated, while elsewhere, forces have advanced. These are entirely strategic moves on our part as long as the enemy remains on our territory,” President Zelenskyy stated during a video conference.

Additionally, Zelenskyy confirmed the ongoing Kursk operation, stating that it will continue as long as there is a threat from Russia.

“Ukraine is fulfilling its mission in the Kursk region, and Ukrainian troops are present there. They will remain as long as this operation is necessary for us. We have strengthened our positions in the east of our country,” the President added.

It is important to note that the enemy is attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian territory with small sabotage and reconnaissance groups. However, most of these incursions are detected in advance by the Defense Forces and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Militarnyi previously reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces withdrew from the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region to take up more favorable positions near Ukraine’s eastern border.

In addition, in his address on March 15, 2025, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that the Kursk operation had been successful.

Due to it, the enemy has pulled significant forces into the area, which has eased pressure on units in other areas.

Separately, the President noted that the defense had successfully withstood constant assaults by Russian and North Korean troops.
