Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a decision to expand the capabilities of the army aviation to enhance the counteraction against enemy UAVs.
The President made this statement following a briefing of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff.
According to Zelensky, additional helicopter units will be formed to perform tasks related to detecting and destroying enemy drones, as well as protecting critical infrastructure.
“Special attention is being given to strengthening cooperation with international partners to provide Ukraine with new types of aircraft and helicopters. This will reinforce our air defense system and improve the effectiveness of countering aerial threats,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
He also noted that, under the President’s directive, ongoing collaboration with both Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers of interceptor drones continues.
The primary objective is to ramp up production and ensure the frontline is equipped with the necessary systems to fight Russian drones.
“We’ve outlined how to enhance the capabilities of our army aviation to defend against drones. Ukraine must have the most effective tools to counter airborne threats,” Zelensky added.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Volodymyr Zelensky also stated that Ukrainian forces are currently destroying about 68% of enemy drones using Ukrainian-made interceptor drones.
However, the goal is to further increase this figure.
As the President stated, the topics of drone defense, air defense supplies, and the development of aviation capabilities will be key issues at the upcoming meeting in the Ramstein format, scheduled for Wednesday.
It’s also important to note that, not long ago, the Ukrainian President tasked drone manufacturers with ensuring the capability to deploy at least 1,000 interceptor drones per day.
