A person who witnessed crimes committed by Russia’s 28th Motor Rifle Regiment has been kidnapped in Russia.
Russian military blogger Maksim Klimov shared this on his Mine Division Telegram channel.
Klimov suggests that the witness may be killed and his body hidden.
The blogger suspects that the commander of the 28th Motor Rifle Regiment of the 70th Motor Rifle Division is responsible for the abduction.
“Commander of the 28th SP of the 70th MSD. If Pavel Dmitrievich, who was kidnapped yesterday in Moscow, ‘suddenly’ turns out to be ‘200’, there have already been precedents, then not only those directly involved will be held accountable, but you too,” Klimov said.
The blogger added that there are officers in the regiment who are trying to “cover up” details and evidence of crimes that took place in 2023-2024 and later.
“And if any of the rats think that ‘no body, no case,’ they are very much mistaken. In this case, the attitude towards the persons concerned, in particular those in official positions, will be appropriate, and all kinds of ‘blockages’ against them will be removed,” Klimov warned.
The 28th Motor Rifle Regiment (28th MPR) of the 70th Motor Rifle Division of the 18th Combined Arms Army is part of Russia’s Southern Military District.
The regiment was formed in 2023 as part of the new 70th MSD.
In 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Salim Karurov took command of the regiment.
Back in 2018, he was involved in several high-profile scandals. He was accused of beating a fellow serviceman, but the case was not pursued. Major Karurov received a court sentence for corruption.
With the start of the invasion, he was tasked with forming the 206th regiment of the “LPR militia” from 1,500 newly recruited conscripts. They counted on his cruelty and questionable moral qualities: the new unit was simply used to “plug the holes” on the front line. At the same time, Karurov was allowed to engage in extortion and abuse of his subordinates.
This regiment fought in the Kharkiv direction, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine repeatedly defeated it.
However, Karurov talked about fictitious victories in propaganda stories. Despite failures in personnel training and operational planning, which led to a successful counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region and the escape of the 206th regiment, Karurov was sent to Moscow, to the Military Academy of the General Staff.
After that, Karurov headed the 28th Motor Rifle Regiment and was promoted to colonel.
Since the summer of 2023, this unit has been located on the left bank of the Dnipro River, in the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region.
From there, peaceful residents and civilian infrastructure on the right bank are constantly being shelled.
Currently, the 28th Regiment is commanded by Sergey Kuralov, who replaced Colonel Salim Karurov.
