Volodymyr Zelensky visited the liberated Bucha.

The President of Ukraine spoke with the local residents in Bucha, which was liberated from the Russian occupiers.

“I don’t think we can even consider the possibility that there will be anything stopping Europe or the world this time to punish the criminals. I am not considering this option, we will not give a single percent chance to it. It is not the same as the case with any alliances today, it’s about life and the fact that people are being killed and tortured. So all these stories about needing to wait, expecting the trial – the trial will be extremely slow. We will be applying as much public pressure as we can… We will not stop before we find all the criminals… And you know that in general, it is for the benefit, I believe, of the entire civilization, because if we do not find a civilized way, you know our people – they will find the uncivilized one,” the President shared with the reporters.

He also explained why he invited Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy to come to the liberated Bucha. Zelensky said he considers the European leaders’ statements about “open doors to NATO” after the 2008 Bucharest summit to be insinuations.

“I think she (Merkel, ed.) heard my signal perfectly clear. And not only her, I appealed not only to her, but also to the leaders of Europe, e.g. Mr. Sarkozy, who, as we know, made important decisions, or so to speak, those influenced by the Russian Federation and some other leaders… This whole story is an insinuation of an “open door to NATO.” We know that most European NATO member states supported Ukraine to be a member of the Alliance back then in Bucharest. And we know perfectly well who those leaders were, and I believe that Angela is among those leaders on whom the decision on whether Ukraine should be a NATO member most depended. Therefore, I believe that what is happening is a game of gambling for the Russian Federation – to give them the opportunity to gain a foothold and feel that they have a strong influence on the opinion of the European Union and many countries,” said Zelensky.

The President also stressed that the negotiation process will continue, although it is difficult. Peace can be achieved after the victory:

“Victory can be gained in a diplomatic format, alongside the fighting actions of our army. Our army demonstrates its fighting efforts every day, but it is not easy. We don’t want to lose millions of people. That is why there must be some form of a dialogue,” Zelensky said.
