USA Asks Poland to Deploy Patriot Air Defense Battery in the Middle East

The United States has informally approached Poland regarding the possible deployment of a Patriot air defense battery in the Middle East.

Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported on this.

The article states that Washington would also like to obtain PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles for this air defense system from Polish stockpiles.

These anti-aircraft missiles are specifically designed to shoot down the ballistic missiles with which Iran is targeting American military bases in the Middle East.

Shortly after the publication of this article, Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiński-Kamysz wrote on social media platform X that Polish Patriot systems and their missiles are used to defend Polish airspace and NATO’s eastern flank.

“Nothing has changed in this regard, and we do not plan to redeploy them anywhere! Our allies know and understand how important our tasks here are. Poland’s security is our absolute priority,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote.

Currently, the Polish Armed Forces have two Patriot air defense systems at their disposal, comprising 16 launchers. They achieved full operational readiness by the end of 2025.

Earlier in March, the North Atlantic Alliance deployed an additional Patriot air defense system in Malatya, Turkey amid a U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran.

This deployment is intended to strengthen Turkey’s defense, as a NATO member, against potential attacks by Iranian missiles and drones.

The U.S. is also using Turkish military bases as part of its alliance obligations, which could become targets of Iranian strikes.
