The US Embassy in Kyiv has issued a warning to its citizens about a “potentially significant air attack in the coming days.”
They wrote about it on their official website.
The US Embassy “recommends that US citizens be prepared to take shelter immediately in the event of an air raid alert.”
Since the fall of 2024, this is the third such message about following instructions in the event of an air alert due to a missile threat.
The first one was on November 20, 2024, when the US Embassy in Kyiv issued a statement calling for compliance with air alert guidelines:
“We recommend that all U.S. citizens follow the instructions of local authorities in the event of an air raid alert and immediately seek shelter upon receiving the appropriate warning,” the statement said.
On the morning of November 21, 2024, Russia attacked the city of Dnipro with an intercontinental ballistic missile, which the Russian dictator later called “Oreshnik”.
This was the first time an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was used in combat in the world. The missile was launched from the Astrakhan region of Russia from the Kapustin Yar test site.
On December 8, 2024, the U.S. Embassy issued a second warning to U.S. citizens to observe air alerts in Ukraine:
“U.S. citizens should observe all government curfews, follow instructions quickly, and seek shelter during an air raid alert,” the U.S. embassy wrote at the time.
On December 11, 2024, then-Deputy Pentagon Spokesperson Sabrina Singh said that the Russians could re-use a medium-range ballistic missile from the Kedr (Oreshnik) complex in Ukraine.
However, neither in December 2024 nor since the beginning of 2025 have Russians used intercontinental ballistic missiles against Ukraine. At the same time, strikes by Shahed/Geranium drones were almost daily.
