The United States has deployed four B-52 strategic bombers to an air base on Diego Garcia Island in the Indian Ocean.

This was reported by @MT_Anderson, an intern who spotted the bombers on satellite images.

Satellite images show that a total of 10 US strategic bombers are now on Diego Garcia Island – six B-2 stealth bombers and four B-52s.

Four B-52s were deployed to the strategic base on May 7, 2025. The bombers arrived in two pairs during the day.

The published low-resolution satellite image shows six B-2s and four B-52s. Other large aircraft are also visible, including KC-135 refueling aircraft, as well as C-5 and C-17 transport aircraft. The KC-135s arrived at Diego Garcia with the B-2s.

According to The War Zone, the key question is whether the arrival of the B-52s will lead to the B-2s leaving the strategically important island.

Since their first deployment to Diego Garcia in March, the B-2s have been used to launch strikes against Iranian-backed Houthi militants in Yemen, with whom the US government recently signed a ceasefire agreement.

Despite the fact that the additional deployment of strategic bombers in the Indian Ocean comes amid an exchange of strikes between India and Pakistan in the disputed region of Kashmir, US officials have made it clear that they do not plan to intervene in the conflict.

In particular, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said that the United States will not interfere in the conflict between Pakistan and India. He called the fighting between the two nuclear powers “essentially none of our business”.

This statement was made in an interview with Fox News, where the US Vice President said that the US will seek to de-escalate the conflict, but cannot force either side to “lay down their arms.”

“What we can do is try to encourage these people to de-escalate, but we’re not going to get involved in the middle of a war that is essentially none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it,” Vance said during the interview.

According to him, the United States hopes and expects that the exchange of strikes will not escalate into a broader regional war or nuclear conflict. “At this point, we don’t think that’s going to happen,” he added.
