British military personnel, along with their Norwegian and American counterparts, deployed troops to the remote Norwegian island of Jan Mayen as part of a NATO operation.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported this.

The exercise, dubbed Operation Atlantic City, took place from August 26 to September 4 as part of the Alliance’s Operation Arctic Sentry.

Marines, Royal Navy forces, and units of the Royal Air Force participated in the exercise, alongside the Norwegian Navy, the Norwegian National Guard, and the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jan Mayen Island lies in the Norwegian Sea north of the Greenland–Iceland–United Kingdom line and is strategically important for the defense of Northern Europe.

During the operation, the allies practiced naval operations, reconnaissance, survival in extreme Arctic conditions, and the integration of sensors and communications systems.

The United Kingdom suspended exercises involving 90 or more military personnel because of a lack of funding at the Ministry of Defense.
