Head of the President’s Office Andrii Yermak has suggested Verkhovna Rada create a parliamentary ad hoc commission.
The commission would track the usage of weapons received from Western partners of Ukraine.
“Parliament, as a legislative body, should be involved in the control of allied defence assistance,” Andrii Yermak said.
All received Western weapons are registered and sent to the front.
The aim of the commission is to be as transparent as possible under martial law.
“Everything is clearly controlled and now this process will become even more open, transparency is the best recipe against Russian manipulation and fakes,” the Head of the President’s Office told the aim of the commission.
Andrii Yermak’s statement is made amid Russia’s propaganda campaign, which spreads disinformation about Ukraine’s alleged sale of Western military aid.
Peter Stano, the EU Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said that any information from Russia about “arms smuggling” from Ukraine is “a lie and massive propaganda.”
“We cannot talk for the NATO, but from EU’s point of view, the Russian propaganda and disinformation attempts are massive and very frequent. Basically anything that comes out of the Kremlin and from the Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs, is a massive propaganda and very often simply lies. Parallel to the armed aggression against Ukraine, Russia launched intense disinformation campaigns aimed against Ukraine, the EU and the NATO, trying to justify their illegitimate attack on Ukraine and confuse the public opinion worldwide and manipulate facts all along,” Stano said.
He noted that the process of supplying Western weapons to Ukraine is as transparent as the security situation allows. Stano emphasized that the EU “has no reason not to trust the Ukrainian Government.”
“We have set up mechanisms to monitor and control that equipment provided by EU Member States is used for its intended purposes. The procedure for controlling the movement of equipment is ensured during the delivery process and after its completion. This is currently happening in cooperation with the Armed Forces, taking into account the long-term perspective,” the EU Lead Spokesperson said.
Also, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said that Ukraine will not allow Western weapons to fall into the hands of the Russian invasion forces.
