Ukrainian Rangers have destroyed a group of Russian soldiers attempting an assault in the Sumy region.
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) reported that the battle took place directly near the state border of Ukraine.
They also reported that six members of the Rangers 6th Special Purpose Regiment conducted a raid on an enemy group advancing on Ukrainian defensive positions.
SOF reported that its troops offered the Russian soldiers a chance to surrender, with guarantees of life, medical assistance, food, and water. The Russians refused.
“Following the refusal, the Rangers, through coordinated combat action, quickly neutralized the threat at sunrise — four Russian soldiers were killed, and another was captured,” the statement said.
The 6th Ranger Regiment has been active along the Kursk axis, including operations earlier this year targeting Russian and North Korean forces in Russia’s Kursk region.
Ukraine’s Ranger Corps, established as part of the SOF under NATO standards, was conceptualized in 2022 and began forming operationally in 2024.
The unit is modeled on Western special operations structures in both organization and equipment.
Russian invaders continue pushing into Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, using numerical superiority and sustained assaults to press forward.
DeepState analysts report that the most difficult situation is unfolding along the Novomykolaivka–Varachyne–Yablunivka–Yunakivka axis, where Russian troops are attempting to seize and entrench themselves in the area.
Particular concern is focused on the Loknia district. Russian units are trying to advance east of the village and establish positions in the forests toward Sadkiv.
“If enemy infantry secures a foothold in the forested area, dislodging them will be extremely difficult,” DeepState noted.
