Ukrainian attack drones struck the hangars of the Russian Borisoglebsk military air base in the Voronezh oblast.
Planet Labs satellite images dated August 14 and published by Radio Svoboda showed that the drones struck the northwestern part of the air base.
A couple of hangars were destroyed. Presumably, the technical and operational unit that repairs and maintains aircraft was located there.
In general, Su-25, Su-30, Su-34, and Su-35 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are based at the Borisoglebsk military air base.
Radio Svoboda’s sources in the Security Service og Ukraine also confirmed the largest attack on Russian military air bases during the entire war.
It regards the air base in Voronezh, as well as the Kursk and Savasleyka military air bases, which were hit on August 14.
According to the source, this was a “specially planned operation” to prevent the enemy from using these military air bases to strike the front line and Ukrainian cities.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported shooting down 117 drones and four tactical missiles over the territory of Russia.
Local residents also reported strikes on the Borisoglebsk and Baltimore military air bases in the Voronezh oblast and the Savasleyka military air base in the Nizhny Novgorod oblast.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Savasleyka military air base hosts MiG-31K aircraft, the carriers of the Kinzhal missiles used by Russia in its attacks on Ukraine. The air base is located about 600 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The FIRMS fire tracking system showed the epicenter of the fire on the territory of the Russian air base. It is likely that the drones hit the depots.
The attack in the Voronezh region began around 10:00 p.m. Moscow time on August 13, 2024.
