On the night of January 20, the Ukrainian Defense Forces executed a missile strike on the Michurinskaya gas-turbine combined heat and power plant, operated by GT Energo, in Belgorod.
Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed the attack via his Telegram channel. He said the strike damaged facilities belonging to the region’s energy infrastructure.
“As a result of the shelling, enterprises that are part of the regional energy sector were damaged. We are conducting demining operations and starting emergency repair work. In addition, buildings and equipment at one of the enterprises in Belgorod were damaged,” Gladkov wrote.
The strike involved the use of missiles. According to Russian monitoring sources, approximately 25 missiles were launched toward Belgorod.
According to information on the GT Energo company’s website, the Michurinskaya Thermal Power Plant has an electrical capacity of 24.2 MW and a thermal capacity of 80 Gcal/hour.
The plant primarily supplies energy to the production facilities and administrative buildings of the Belenergomash–BZEM plant and is not part of the city’s district heating system.
The targeted power plant is about half the capacity of the previously attacked Luch Thermal Power Plant and the Belgorod Thermal Power Plant.
