Ukrainian Defense Forces Hit Russian Mangust Patrol Boat in Crimea

Units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces hit a Russian Mangust patrol boat in Crimea.

Ukraine’s General Staff reported the strike.

At the time it was hit, the boat was located in Kozacha Bay in Sevastopol.

The extent of the damage is currently being clarified.

Mangust Patrol Boat

The Mangust (Project 12150) is a Russian high-speed coastal patrol boat. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Border Guard Service primarily uses these boats, while other Russian security and government agencies use some modifications.

The boat is about 20 meters long, has a maximum speed of up to 50 knots (more than 90 km/h), and a crew of up to six.

The standard armament for these boats is the MTPU-1 Zhalo 14.5 mm naval machine-gun mount. Various configurations have also been reported to support the installation of:

• 7.62 mm PKMB machine guns;
• AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers;
• DP-64 anti-sabotage grenade launchers;
• Igla-1M-type man-portable air defense systems.

According to open-source data, Russia has 62 Mangust boats in service.

Before the full-scale invasion, Russia’s Border Guard Service used Mangust boats to conduct dangerous maneuvers near Ukrainian ships and boats in the Sea of Azov.

In particular, in September 2018, Project 12150 PSKA-651 conducted dangerous maneuvers near the Ukrainian Maritime Guard boat BG-59 Oniks.
