A Russian drone tried to bombard Ukrainian border guards with К-51 gas grenades.
The attack attempt was made in the Luhansk region, according to the Lugansk Border Guards Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus.
The invaders tried to drop the К-51 gas grenade using a drone that had an ammunition launch system.
“In the Luhansk region, border guards shot down an enemy drone with interesting ammunition,” the border guards said.
This is the first case of the invaders using such grenades near the positions of Lugansk border guards.
For a long time, Russian invasion forces have been using К-51 gas grenades against the Ukrainian military.
The К-51 is a special gas grenade developed in the late 1970s in the Soviet Union.
The grenade had a solid plastic hull with a metal bottom. The sealed hull of the grenade was filled with a powdered, highly irritating substance with a non-lethal action.
The impact of К-51 grenades compared to grenades to disperse demonstrators is several times higher, since they were created for military and special services. The grenade explosion was initiated remotely (after 3-4 seconds). After the start of the ignition, there was a reaction inside the grenade, the burning substance increased pressure inside the hull and knocked out the bottom of the grenade, spraying a cloud of the chemical.
An enemy caught in a cloud of gas, without a gas mask, is not able to resist and fire from weapons, since his hands reflexively reach to his face to wipe his eyes. The respiratory tract is pierced by shortness of breath with a cough, and the sinuses are filled with mucus.
It is worth noting that К-51 gas grenades were actively used by Russian forces during the battles for Donetsk airport in 2015.
The grenade is very effective in “smoking out” the enemy without gas masks in tiny spaces, because it is able to neutralize the enemy on an area of 400 square meters.
