French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris will give Ukraine six CAESAR ACSs in addition to the announced supply of weapons.
He said this during a briefing following the meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
Thus, a total amount of 18 CAESAR self-propelled artillery systems from France will be transferred.
“We will strengthen military support, including CAESAR ACS, which will allow the military to defend themselves more effectively against Russian aggression,” he said, adding that in the near future he will approve decision on additional systems.
Macron also said that France would not force Ukraine to negotiate peace with Russia. The Ukrainian government must personally determine the conditions for dialogue with the Kremlin.
“We always support the option of dialogue, because one day the conflict must cease and negotiations must begin. But the terms of the negotiations should be determined by Ukraine: France and Germany will never be mediators behind Ukraine’s back and will never require conditions from Ukraine,” the Head of the French state stressed.
Recently, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna also announced that Ukraine will receive a new batch of CAESAR 155-mm self-propelled artillery systems.
Also, self-propelled artillery systems are not the only ones that come to Ukraine from France.
The French ACSs were received by the 55th Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Caesar ACS is a French 155mm self-propelled howitzer developed by GIAT Industries.
Barrel length – 52 calibers. It holds 18 rounds. Rate of fire – 6 shots per minute. Caesar is able to use the full range of NATO 155mm artillery shells.
The Renault Sherpa 5 6×6 chassis are used for the French army modification.
