Lithuania will continue to support Ukraine in resisting the Russian invasion. Defense forces will receive additional ammunition.
Minister of National Defense Arvydas Anušauskas said this today after the meeting of the State Defense Council, LRT reports.
Following the meeting, the minister spoke with representatives of the press.
“It has been decided on further forms of support, the ammunition that Ukraine needs will be provided,” Anušauskas told reporters on Monday.
The Minister of Defense noted that for Lithuania, the amount of support to Ukraine had already reached €640 million, and military support amounted to more than €232 million.
This month, Lithuania has transferred to Ukraine 10 heavy Panzermörser self-propelled mortars on the chassis of the M113A2 tracked armored personnel carrier. The necessary ammunition for these mortars has also been handed over to Ukraine.
“Lithuania continues to fulfill its obligations. I want to thank the soldiers of the Lithuanian army and specialists of the national defense system, who prepared and organized the logistical support in a short time,” Minister of National Defense Arvydas Anušauskas said.
Mounted on the M113A2 chassis, the Panzermörser uses a 120 mm Tampella mortar with a maximum firing range of 6,500 – 7,200 meters. Ammunition consists of 60 min. The mortar can accommodate a crew of 5 people.
Also, in total, Lithuania intends to repair at least 12 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian military actively uses German-made PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers on the battlefield, so they require constant high-quality maintenance.
The fact that Lithuania undertook to repair the PzH 2000 Ukrainian forces became known in mid-September.
In addition, Lithuania is also handing over winter uniforms for about 25,000 Ukrainian soldiers of a total value of about two million euros.
