The defense industries of Ukraine and Romania signed a memorandum in Paris.
The National Association of Ukrainian Defense Industries (NAUDI) reported that the memorandum with the PATROMIL association provided for the maintenance of equipment and the production of ammunition.
The memorandum is expected to open up new opportunities for the exchange of experience, technologies and resources.
“This opens a new stage in the cooperation between Ukrainian and Romanian defense companies. Together with our Romanian colleagues, we plan to establish even more projects,” NAUDI said.
The Romanian association PATROMIL unites the interests of more than 200 Romanian manufacturers of military equipment and other military technologies.
The association also organizes the EXPOMIL international exhibition of military equipment in Bucharest every two years.
In the postwar years, Romania managed to create a fairly developed defense industry.
In two decades, the country has developed its own production in all key industries: from artillery and small arms and ammunition to shipbuilding, tank and aircraft manufacturing.
Romania’s ammunition industry has the capacity to produce the entire range of ammunition used by the national Armed Forces.
The production of these products and their main components was concentrated at more than ten enterprises.
In 2023, it became known that a new plant for the production of gunpowder for ammunition would be built in Romania. The plant is planned to be built in cooperation with the United States and South Korea.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have also been using Romanian defense industry products for a long time. As a reminder, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are armed with 152-mm M1981 howitzers, APR-40 multiple launch rocket systems, CUGIR DShKM machine guns and other Romanian-made weapons.
