Ukraine is negotiating the localization and acceleration of repairs to Dutch Robin Radar systems.
This was discussed during a conversation between Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and his Dutch counterpart Ruben Brekelmans.
The ministers discussed a number of projects, including the supply of radars, AIM missiles, and RUTA cruise missiles.
“We are consistently launching the production of Ukrainian drones in the form of a joint venture in the Netherlands,” Fedorov said.
The defense minister also spoke about cooperation on the localization of Robin Radar radars.
In 2024, the Dutch Ministry of Defense ordered 51 mobile radars for Ukraine to detect drones.
Robin Radar radars are capable of detecting small drones and distinguishing them from birds, even at high speeds.
A unique feature of these radars is their ability to operate effectively when mounted on mobile platforms.
Robin Radar manufactures a variety of radars for detecting small targets, including drones. The main models presented on the company’s official website are Max, IRIS, and ELIRA.
All of them provide a 360° azimuth view and update information at a rate of about one second. At the same time, only Max and IRIS operate in 3D mode, i.e., in addition to the plane position, they also determine the height of the object.
The use of IRIS radars in Ukraine helped Robin Radar develop a software update that more than doubled the target detection range.
This innovation made IRIS one of the first commercial radars capable of detecting and classifying Shahed strike drones, as well as other long-range unmanned aerial vehicles.
