Ukraine receives PT-91 Twardy tanks from Poland

Poland handed over PT-91 Twardy main battle tanks to Ukraine. This is yet another batch of military assistance to counter Russia’s aggression.

This was announced by Andrii Yermak, the Chief of Staff of the Office of the President.

Tanks have already arrived in the country to strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The delivery of heavy armored vehicles was announced by the spokesman of the Polish Armament Agency Krzysztof Płatek. He did not specify the number of transferred combat vehicles.

“The shortage of more than 200 Т-72 tanks and a certain number of PT-91 tanks, I can’t say how many, will be completely fixed and even improved, because these are much higher quality tanks,” the Armament Agency’s spokesman said during an interview with Wolski o Wojnie.

РТ-91 is the main battle tank of the Polish army. These tanks were made on the basis of a licensed version of the Soviet Т-72М1 MBT.

The first prototypes were manufactured in 1993. The basic version was mass produced at Bumar-Łabędy until 2002.

РТ-91 has modern fire control and communication systems. Tank and crew protection is further enhanced by mounted reactive armor. Tank is equipped with a locally produced 850 hp PZL-Wola S-12U diesel engine.

As of early June, Poland handed over almost $2 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine.

That amount includes more than 240 tanks and more than 100 armored personnel carriers. Polish President Andrzej Duda said this in an interview.

Poland also transferred small arms, ammunition, and military equipment.

KRAB ACS, which Poland handed over to Ukraine, are also already performing combat missions at the front line. The Armed Forces of Ukraine use KRAB ACS to fight Russian occupation forces.
