A new Pegas tracked infantry fighting vehicle is being developed in Ukraine.
A mock-up of the promising vehicle was presented at the MSPO 2026 international defense exhibition in Kielce, Poland, according to Militarnyi.
The relocated state-owned enterprise Kharkiv Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering (KhKBM) is developing the fighting vehicle.
Pegas is positioned as a domestically produced tracked infantry fighting vehicle with enhanced cross-country capability. It is designed to transport military personnel and provide fire support to units during combat on roads with various surfaces and in off-road terrain.
The vehicle will weigh 35 metric tons and measure 8 meters long, 3.2 meters wide, and 3.3 meters tall.
The maximum speed is stated as 70 km/h, with a range of 500 kilometers. The IFV will be capable of operating at temperatures ranging from –40 to +50 °C and at altitudes up to 3,000 meters above sea level.
The armored hull will feature integrated ballistic, mine, and fragmentation protection.
The main part of the hull must meet at least Level 4 of the NATO STANAG 4569 standard, while the frontal projection must meet Level 6.
Additional protection against cumulative munitions, including RPG-7 grenades, is also planned. An electronic warfare system will provide countermeasures against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The Topaz combat module could become the primary armament of the Pegas; a prototype of this module was demonstrated by KhKBM on the BTR-4.
“The plan is to install this ‘Topaz’ combat module on this IFV,” a representative of the developer told Militarnyi.
The new combat module is currently undergoing testing.
