Ukrainian company Odd Systems will build a factory for thermal imaging camera sensors, which will be capable of producing one million units per year.
According to the publication Oboronka, this was announced by the company’s co-founder Yaroslav Azhniuk at the Ukrainian Pravda conference “War 2026. People vs. Machines.”
The semiconductor factory will be built to reduce Ukrainian manufacturers’ dependence on foreign components, particularly from China.
“Europe currently produces less than 500,000 such sensors per year, while Ukraine consumes this amount in about five months. It is clear that we do not consume European sensors: they are not only five times more expensive than Chinese ones, but also often of lower quality. But the biggest problem is that they are almost impossible to buy because Europeans also need them,” explained the co-founder of Odd Systems.
The launch of the plant will triple the production of sensors for thermal imaging cameras on the European continent. A final decision on where to build the production facilities — in Ukraine or abroad — has not yet been made.
At the end of December 2025, it was reported that Ukraine had developed the TFL Anti-Shahed module, which automatically guides the interceptor to Shahed-type drones.
The module is installed between a thermal imaging camera, usually the Kurbas-640a developed by the Ukrainian company Odd Systems, and a flight controller or video transmitter.
The system autonomously detects the drone on thermal imaging, analyzing the object’s movement, its thermal signature, and other parameters using AI. After detection, the system forms a green outline around the target and provides stable tracking, working in parallel and without interfering with the flight of the aircraft.
