In 2023, Ukraine increased the production of domestic mortar shells by 42 times.
This was announced at Ukraine. 2024 forum.
During the forum, it was noted that the production of 60-, 82-, and 120-mm mortar shells was increased by 42 times in 2023 compared to last year.
Despite this growth, the amount produced domestically today is still not enough for the military.
One of the reasons for the delays in mass production is the global gunpowder shortage, which, in addition to Ukrainian producers, has also affected foreign companies.
Due to world events, suppliers reported unprecedented demand and an expected global shortage of gunpowder, and therefore significantly increased prices.
In general, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the number of companies involved in the production of 82-mm mines has increased from 2 to 20.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister Of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, previously shared:
Six months ago, for example, there were two suppliers of hulls for the 82-mm mortar rounds in Ukraine. Today, there are more than 20. This means that 18 more companies have discovered an opportunity to switch their foundry production to mortar shells,” Kamyshin stated.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Ukrainian Armor had disclosed some details about the production rate of mortar shells and mortars themselves.
To increase the rate of production of defense products, the company tries to engage everyone available in the labor market.
In 2023, it was reported that Ukrainian Armor resumed serial production of 60mm mortar rounds. The company also established the production of 120mm mortar rounds.
