Ukraine expects to receive Abrams tanks from the United States and Leopard 2 from Germany.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said this in a conversation with German journalists.

At the beginning of the full-scale war, Germany supplied Ukraine with only protective equipment or helmets, as opposed to today, when the military is also receiving modern weapons, such as air defense, jet, and artillery systems.

“Germany has made great progress in supporting Ukraine with weapons. We are grateful to Germany, we are grateful to Chancellor Scholz for supporting Ukraine,” Denys Shmyhal said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that Ukraine wants to receive even more support from Germany as quickly as possible. The Armed Forces of Ukraine hope to have not only German, but also American modern battle tanks.

“We expect the United States to supply us with its Abrams tanks, and Germany with its Leopard 2. These are the modern tanks that Ukraine needs on the battlefield,” Shmyhal said.

The German side also announced the supply of the state-of-the-art IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that financial assistance from the European Union, Germany and international financial institutions is equally important to the supply of weapons.

In July, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, spoke about the prospects of obtaining Leopard tanks for Ukraine.

He told about the agreement with one of the ally countries to supply this type of weapon. The first vehicles will be used for training the Ukrainian servicemen.

It is worth noting that a tank academy was recently opened in Poland at the Bedrusko military training ground.

This academy received 28 Abrams tanks and is designed to train crews to operate American tanks.
