Ukraine deploys small artillery boats to the Azov Sea

After the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on September 6, a decision was made to strengthen the naval presence in the Sea of ​​Azov by establishing a naval grouping of the Ukrainian Navy.  The corresponding actions did not wait for long: this morning a truck carrying of a small armored artillery boat (SAAB – Ukrainian MBAK ) of the Naval Forces of Ukraine was noticed in Berdyansk.

Ukrainian military portal’s sources at the General Staff and the Naval Command confirmed relocation.

It is expected that three small armored artillery boats will be transferred to the Sea of ​​Azov, which today will be the most powerful units in this sea.

Military build-up at the Azov Sea starting in May, when Russia relocated three artillery boats of the “Shmel” type from the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy.

As expected by the end of the year, the naval base of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be created on the Sea of ​​Azov by transferring here the Southern Naval Base of the Navy from Mykolaiv. Subsequently, at its base, an armed boats division will be created with the future deployment of forces and means.

This actions change early announced structure of the Navy Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine where main focus was on the development at the Black Sea.
