On Friday, February 24, the USA announced the allocation of a new military aid package to Ukraine.
The corresponding statement was made by the Pentagon.
The value of the announced aid is $2 billion.
Specifically, the United States is committing additional Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS and electronic warfare detection equipment, as well as critical ammunition stocks for artillery and precision fires capabilities.
The assistance is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) – therefore, the weapons will be ordered from manufacturers, in contrast to delivering equipment that is drawn down from DoD stocks.
This security assistance package include the following capabilities:
“This announcement represents the beginning of a contracting process to provide additional capabilities to Ukraine’s Armed Forces,” the U.S. Department of Defense noted.
As previously reported, Bloomberg informed that the US was providing Ukraine with a long-range GPS-guided bomb, capable of hitting targets 72 km away.
There is no official information from the Pentagon about the transfer of these munitions, however the likelihood of their transfer was announced at the end of December last year.
Boeing Joint Direct Attack Munition may come as part of a $1.85 billion aid package.
They were designated as “precision aerial munitions.”
It is the Extended-Range Jdam, known as the Jdam-ER.
Besides, the US is going to hand over 4 Bradley Fire Support Team vehicles to Ukraine. The official designation is M7 Bradley Fire Support Team (BFIST).
