On Sunday, February 12, the US military shot down another unidentified aerial object.
This time the incident occurred over Lake Huron in Michigan, the Pentagon reports.
The lake is located on the border between the United States and Canada.
An F-16 fired an AIM9x to successfully shoot down an airborne object.
Destruction of the airborne object took place at the direction of President Biden, and based on the recommendations of Secretary Austin and military leadership.
The US military said the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) had detected the object in the early hours of February 12 and maintained “visual and radar tracking.”
According to them, the object was not assessed as carrying a military threat to anything on the ground, however, it could pose a danger to civil aviation, as it flew at an altitude of about 6,000 meters.
Besides, the Pentagon added that it had “potential surveillance capabilities.”
The object was octagonal in structure, the high-ranking US official said, ABC News reports.
It should be noted that this unidentified object has become the fourth shot down over North America in recent times. An aircraft was shot down over northern Canada last Saturday, and over Alaska on Friday.
As previously reported, on February 4, near the coast of South Carolina, an F-22 fighter of the US Air Force shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon, which had been in the airspace of the United States for several days.
The balloon was shot down after it left the airspace over a populated area. Currently, the wreckage of the object is being studied in the USA.
