Trump to hold military parade on his 79th birthday

The US President plans to organize a military parade in Washington on his 79th birthday.

The length of the parade route is expected to be about 7 kilometers – from the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, to the White House.

In addition, the parade will be timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the US Army, which, according to one official, is planned to be celebrated on a special scale.

Currently, local authorities in Washington are preparing to plan the event, and the army’s engineering units are already laying a route for armored vehicles to pass through.

It is worth noting that during his previous presidency, Donald Trump also planned to hold a military parade in 2018.

“The Army is very enthusiastic about celebrating its 250th anniversary with the whole country. We want Americans to be proud of their army and their nation. It’s too early to say whether there will be a parade, but we are working with the White House and several government agencies to make this celebration a national event,” Col. David Butler, a U.S. Army spokesman, told The Hill.

However, the request was denied because the preliminary estimate of the parade cost was $92 million, which caused a wave of criticism from the public.

At the same time, Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican, South Carolina), a strong supporter of Trump, warned against organizing the parade as a Soviet-style demonstration of military force.

City officials also warned that the passage of heavy armored vehicles through the streets could damage the road surface, requiring additional millions of dollars in repairs.
