The United States is investing in producing the ammunition to meet the battlefield needs of the Ukrainian military.
Laura Cooper, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia, announced this at the October 4 Pentagon briefing.
She noted that the United States is “closely monitoring” the rate of munitions spent by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to meet their needs.
“We’re watching their ammunition consumption rates very closely to make sure they have what it takes to counterattack,” she said.
Answering the journalists’ questions about whether the United States has enough ammunition for its own needs and to provide assistance to Ukraine, the Pentagon official confirmed that the in-country production of ammunition is increasing.
“Over time, we will have a steady rate of production both for Ukrainians and for us,” she emphasized.
Cooper also expressed confidence that the additional HIMARS systems provided by the US in the new military aid package will strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities on the battlefield.
The Pentagon announced in August that the United States of America is replenishing its own stocks of GMLRS, which are used by the HIMARS and M270 systems.
American officials visited the facilities producing High Mobility Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS).
The Pentagon emphasized that the United States is focused on increasing the supply of GMLRS guided rockets with a range of up to 84 kilometers.
The US Department of Defense is consulting with Kyiv about the current needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front.
On September 28, in Brussels, the US and partner countries discussed increasing the production of weapons for Ukraine.
