The United States will train approximately 50 Ukrainian servicemen to use the HIMARS multiple rocket launch systems.

Foreign Policy reporter Jack Detch stated that this was announced by a senior U.S. defense official at a briefing.

The Pentagon expects the second round of training to begin soon and to cover Ukrainian servicemen of different ranks engaged in the work with the HIMARS multiple rocket launch systems, which Ukraine receives for protection against Russia.

“U.S. training for about 50 Ukrainian troops on the HIMARS multiple rocket launch systems will take about two weeks.

The U.S. expects the second round of training to begin soon and to cover Ukrainian service members of different ranks,” the official said.

It was recently reported that the M142 HIMARS rocket systems are already working at the frontline. They were supplied by the United States as a part of the security assistance package to the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As previously reported, on June 23, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced that the American HIMARS systems have arrived in Ukraine.

On June 1, the United States approved a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which included HIMARS and its ammunition. Ukraine was to receive these weapons as part of the $700 million aid package.

The Pentagon later stated that providing Ukraine with several systems is just a starting point. It was further reported that the United States might double the number of HIMARS systems shipped over to Ukraine. This would mean the supply of 4 more weapons systems.

Recently, the United States announced another $450 million drawdowns for Ukraine to meet the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ critical needs.

The package includes four additional HIMARS systems and 105-mm artillery ammunition.

M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) uses a 6-wheel chassis of an M1140 FMTV tactical truck. The system can be used as a rocket launcher with ammunition of different ranges, and as a tactical missile system.
