The United States hands over more than 2 million 155 mm shells to Ukraine

The United States has already delivered more than 2 million 155mm shells to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, Department of Defense Press Secretary, announced this on Thursday.

They also ensured a rapid increase in domestic production of large-calibre artillery ammunition for Ukraine’s needs.

“We provided to date over two million 155mm ammo rounds to Ukraine since the start of the fight (in 2022 – Ed.). We’ve also enabled a rapid increase in 155 ammo production. So from 14,000 a month in February of ’22 to approximately 24,000 a month currently,” Ryder emphasized.

Also, the US plans to be at over 80,000 a month over the following year.

According to the Department of Defense Press Secretary, these munitions are being used up quickly and their stocks are limited, but the United States is working with allies and partners around the world to replenish their stockpiles.

While the United States and other countries are increasing the production of high-explosive incendiary, Ukraine continues to receive cluster artillery munitions, which the Ukrainian military uses exclusively for military purposes.

In May, Militarnyi reported that South Korea transferred hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds to the United States to be delivered to Ukraine, which was reported by the Wall Street Journal. The White House and the South Korean government have not commented on the confidential arrangement.

In June, it became known that Japan was negotiating to provide artillery shells to replenish US stockpiles in exchange for ammunition supplied to Ukraine.

The shortage of high-explosive incendiary was the reason for President Joe Biden’s decision last month to allow the supply of cluster artillery munitions to Ukraine from US stockpiles.

Recently, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have shown what effect of American cluster munitions have, which are used on the positions of the Russian invaders.

According to US officials, Ukraine now fires up to 8,000 artillery shots per day.
