The United States could supply Ukraine with long-range missile systems – Media

The United States could approve the transfer of long-range missile systems to Ukraine in the coming days.

The U.S. presidential administration is preparing to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine by sending the Multiple Launch Rocket System, or MLRS.

The decision could be announced as soon as next week, according to sources on the American TV channel.

The report notes that such weapons are the top request from the Ukrainian Armed Forces to counter Russia’s full-scale aggression.

The United States waivered for weeks on whether to send the systems, amid concerns that Ukraine could use the systems to carry out offensive attacks on Russia, which according to the Americans could lead to an escalation of the military conflict.

Reuters claims that the dialogue between Washington and Kyiv on this topic is “highly sensitive” and aims to achieve a “shared understanding of the risk of escalation.”

At the same time, the United States does not impose clear geographical restrictions on the use of its weapons by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The United States is likely to send these systems as part of a larger package of military aid to Ukraine, which could be announced next week.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, American MLRS could be “game-changing.” U.S. long-range missile systems can launch missiles for hundreds of kilometers [using ATACMS system – Militarnyi], which is way further than any of the artillery the US has sent to date, according to CNN.

As previously reported, yesterday the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi appealed to the countries that support Ukraine in resisting the full-scale Russian aggression to hand over long-range weapons.
