The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Russia’s losses during the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region.
The data was published on the official Facebook page of the General Staff.
It is reported that over the five months of the Kursk operation, which was launched on August 6, 2024, the total enemy losses amounted to more than 38,000, of which about 15,000 KIA.
As a result of this operation, for the first time in 11 years of war, hostilities were transferred to the territory of Russia.
It is noted that the purpose of the operation in the Kursk region was to prevent the Russian invaders from advancing in the Sumy region and to create a so-called “buffer zone.”
The General Staff emphasized that the operation forced Russia to transfer significant resources to the Kursk region, which weakened its positions on other frontlines.
The invaders have deployed some of the most combat-ready airborne troops, marines, and special forces units.
“Russia was also forced to urgently ask for help from North Korea, which sent almost 12,000 of its soldiers to Russia. About 4,000 of them have already been eliminated, and some units have lost their combat capability,” the statement reads.
In addition, the General Staff released data on Russian losses during the period of active hostilities:
During the operation in the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces captured 860 Russian servicemen, which significantly replenished the exchange fund.
As a result, “hundreds of Ukrainian defenders” who were in Russian captivity were brought home, the General Staff emphasizes.
It is noted that over 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers received state awards for their heroism and successful actions during the Kursk operation.
