The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has put the first underground medical stabilization point for the Armed Forces into operation.

The medical facility is reportedly constructed of six steel bunkers equipped with ventilation, water supply, and independent power sources.

Thanks to modern medical equipment, including operating rooms and intensive care units, it can treat more than 100 wounded daily.

The project is the first step in a large-scale initiative to build more than 20 such medical stabilization points.

“Such underground medical stabilization points are critical to saving the lives of our military. In the face of intense hostilities, we must ensure maximum protection and prompt medical care for our heroes. This is the first step in a large-scale project that will strengthen our medical infrastructure and allow us to support our defenders on the front line even more effectively,” the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umierov emphasized.

The Ministry of Defense constructed the first station in cooperation with Metinvest Group.

Underground steel shelters

The Ukrainian army has been using similar underground steel shelters since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

These are modified Soviet-style steel shelters with the help of Ukrainian military and metallurgical engineers.

Typically, the shelters are dug 1.5 meters underground and additionally reinforced with a floor made of wooden beams. If properly installed, these modules can withstand 152mm artillery fire.

“The module is well-protected and compact. It is lowered into a pre-prepared ditch and covered with earth in several layers of earth, with a wooden beam between them. Even in the event of a close hit by an enemy shell, this design will protect our military from threats,” one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen shared.

In August 2024, philanthropists transferred STABNET mobile medical stabilization points to the 4th Rapid Reaction Brigade “Rubizh.”

This was the ninth Stabnet stabilization container delivered to the Defense Forces and the first for the Ukrainian National Guard.
