The Defense Forces of Ukraine used the trophy TOS-1A Solntsepyok on Russian positions.

The Divanno-Sturmovaya Brigada Telegram channel reported about this.

“This system was captured in the Balakliya area along with a “significant” stock of missiles, and it is used only when there is an urgent need to cover the enemy’s location with a thermal bar,” the statement says.

According to the OSINT service Oryx, the Defense Forces of Ukraine captured three TOS-1A Heavy Flamethrower Systems and four loading and transporting vehicles.

In addition, three TOS-1A and three loading and transporting vehicles have been destroyed.

According to the General Staff, as of February 15, 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed nine Heavy Flamethrower Systems, such as TOS-1 Buratino and TOS-1A Solntsepyok.

At the beginning of the full-scale war, the Russian military was armed with an unspecified number of Solntsepyok Heavy Flamethrower Systems.

Some sources claimed that the Russians had up to 50 vehicles.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine captured these systems in Donbas, Kharkiv region, and Chernihiv region.

The Defense Forces of Ukraine did not use trophy TOS-1A for the first time. Militarnyi previously reported that a video featuring the TOS-1A as part of a convoy was published on social media.

The Soviet-era TOS-1 Buratino and the Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok are 220 mm heavy flamethrower systems. They are mounted on the T-72 tank chassis. The system uses unguided rockets, which have a length of 3700 mm and a weight of 217 kg.

These rockets consist of a thermobaric or ignition head part, a fuse, and a solid fuel jet engine. It is stated that the effective range of the TOS-1А is approximately 6,000 meters.
