Sweden will provide Ukraine with 10 coast guard boats and allocate funds to strengthen its air defense as part of military assistance.
The Swedish Ministry of Defence reported this.
The country’s government has instructed the Coast Guard to transfer 10 operational and high-speed boats to Ukraine in their current condition.
The boats will be handed over to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES). They will be used for rescue operations on the water, including clearing mines from river channels.
“Sweden supports Ukraine in several areas and is now continuing to strengthen Ukraine’s maritime capabilities. Towing, mine clearance and transport are all important tasks, and these capabilities can now be further improved,” said Swedish Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin.
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency will be responsible for transporting the boats to Ukraine.
In addition to the boats, Sweden will provide another SEK 270 million to several multilateral funds and initiatives aimed at supporting Ukraine’s defence.
Of this amount, $14 million will be allocated to the PURL initiative. This will help Ukraine receive high-priority U.S. weapons more quickly, including air defense systems and ammunition.
The government noted that this is Sweden’s fifth contribution to PURL. With the new package, Sweden’s total support for Ukraine under the initiative will reach $552 million.
In July, Sweden’s Defence Minister confirmed that Ukraine has the right to use Meteor missiles against aircraft over Russian territory.
