A Russian Su-34 strike fighter was shot down in Kyiv region.
The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Pavliuk announced this.
According to him, at about 8:15 am, air defense units of the Ground Forces of Ukraine in Bucha district shot down an enemy strike fighter SU-34.
The plane was shot down using Stinger MANPADS.
“We are closing the skies over Kyiv region with our own forces,” Pavlyuk wrote.
Catapulting of the crew was not noticed, the plane crashed in the temporarily occupied territory, so in the near future we should not expect photo confirmations with the wreckage.
The Su-34 is a twin-seat, all-weather supersonic medium-range fighter-bomber/strike aircraft. It has 12 suspension points and can carry up to 8000 kg of combat payload.
During the new phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war, which began with a massive invasion on February 24, 2022, the Defense Forces repeatedly shot down Su-34s.
Members of several crews are captured and give evidence of war crimes. Russia is using the Su-34 to bomb residential areas with FAB-500 unguided high-explosive bombs.
