The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) exposed a Russian agent who collected intelligence information on Ukrainian military and law enforcement officers in Mykolaiv.
This was reported by the SSU press service.
The man tried to pass the received information to the enemy through anonymous telegram channels, which were created by the special services of the Russian Federation for intelligence and sabotage activities in the region.
The SSU emphasized that the invaders were ‘hunting’ for accurate coordinates of the SSU facilities, on which they planned to carry out a targeted missile strike.
The SSU managed to detain the Russian agent, he turned out to be a local resident.
After the start of a full-scale invasion, the man looked for ways to cooperate with the representatives of the aggressor country.
“To do this, the individual actively demonstrated his pro-Kremlin views through social media, calling to support the invaders. He also justified Russia’s war crimes of killing civilians and destroying the critical infrastructure of Ukrainian cities. In this way, the man came to the invaders’ attention and they recruited him to collect intelligence for the Russian troops in the occupied areas of the south of our country,” the SSU reported.
During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found a mobile phone and computer equipment with evidence of his subversive activities.
He was informed of suspicion under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
Court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect. The investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the offenses.
As previously reported, the SSU detained an FSB agent who tried to gain the trust of the Ukrainian military and become a double agent.
