The Spanish Armed Forces have deployed a long-range detection radar in Romania as part of NATO’s mission to strengthen its eastern flank.
The Spanish Ministry of Defense reported on this.
The radar station was deployed by a unit of the Spanish Air Force in the Romanian city of Cataloi.
The deployed LTR-25 radar is used for long-range detection of air targets and reconnaissance.
The range of detection of air targets is more than 450 km, and the combination of the radar with the NATO common air defense system allows the coordinates of targets to be transmitted to air defense calculations.
The radar operates in the L-band, and the antenna array itself is phased, which allows for high-quality airspace scanning.
Spanish company Lanza, a pioneer in the development of radar stations for both ships and ground and air surveillance, developed the radar.
The radar is quite compact, as it can be transported by two trucks, and its dimensions allow it to be transported by C-130 aircraft.
In addition, Germany will deploy two Patriot air defense systems in Poland to protect the logistics center of international military assistance to Ukraine.
Two MIM-104 Patriot systems and 200 Bundeswehr soldiers will be deployed in Poland for about six months, starting in late January 2025.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Serbian military has received the latest French GM400 and GM200 multi-purpose radars.
Serbia has ordered a total of four GM400 stations, which, together with the GM200 medium-range radar station and GM60 and GS40 stations, will provide full radar coverage of the territory of Serbia.
The GM-400 radar was developed by the French company Thales in 2007 and provides a range of air target detection of up to 470 km in the standard version and up to 515 km in the Alpha version.
