Safran to Produce 1,400 AASM Hammer Guided Bombs in 2026

French company Safran plans to produce 1,400 AASM Hammer precision-guided bomb kits in 2026.

Safran CEO Olivier Andriès announced this in an interview with La Tribune.

In addition to expanding production, the company will invest €120 million in its Montluçon facility and create 150 new jobs.

The investment is part of a broader €1.4 billion package approved by Safran in 2025 to increase production capacity across its global operations.

The Montluçon plant produces high-precision equipment, including AASM kits consisting of a guidance system and rocket booster that are fitted onto standard bombs, as well as high-precision gyroscopes used for jamming-resistant targeting.

These systems are also used in inertial navigation systems for aircraft, ships, and ground vehicles.

With the new investment, Safran plans to triple gyroscope production from 10,000 units per year to 30,000 by 2032.

AASM Hammer Production

In 2024, Safran exceeded its production target by nearly 40%, manufacturing 830 units instead of the planned 600 AASM precision-guided munitions.

In July 2025, the French Armed Forces Ministry announced an acceleration of AASM Hammer production due to its operational effectiveness in Ukraine.

The government planned to invest €128 million to support further scaling of output.

At the start of 2026, it was reported that AASM precision-guided munitions production increased by 30% in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching approximately 1,080 units. In 2022, annual production stood at just 200 units.

In addition to the rocket-boosted version, Safran introduced an improved AASM kit — the Hammer XLR — in June 2025. The variant uses a turbojet engine, increasing maximum range from 70 km to 150-200 km when released from high altitude.
