Russia has been using Tochka-U operational missile systems since the first weeks of the invasion of Ukraine.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia repeatedly tried to reject the use of these missiles.
Recently, it became known that the Russians relocated Tochka-U tactical missile systems from Belarus to Ukraine.
9К79-1 “Tochka-U” missile system is designed to defeat small targets in the depth of the enemy’s defense.
The first two launches of Tochka (NATO reporting name is SS-21 Scarab A) missiles were made in 1971 during trials. Serial production of the missile started in 1973, although the system was officially approved in 1976. The system had a range of 15 to 70 km and its circular error probable is estimated to be about 250 m.
In 1989, a modified 9К79-1 Tochka-U system was adopted. The main difference is its increased range.
