Russian Spy Network Uncovered in Argentina

Argentina’s National Intelligence Service (SIDE) has uncovered a network of Russian operatives allegedly engaged in influence operations on behalf of Moscow, according to presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, as reported by La Derecha Diario.

The network included both Russian nationals and Argentine citizens. Its primary objectives were disinformation campaigns and efforts to influence domestic political processes.

During the investigation, SIDE identified the activities of a group known as La Compañía, which was found to have direct ties to the Lakhta Project — an international influence operation reportedly financed by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the late founder of the Russian Wagner private military company.

The Lakhta Project has been the subject of multiple international investigations for its role in election interference and psychological operations in Western democracies.

The Argentine-based operation was led by Lev Konstantinovich Andriashvili, a Russian citizen residing in the country. Together with his wife, Irina Yakovenko, also a Russian national, he allegedly managed local efforts and oversaw the distribution of funding from Moscow.

According to Adorni, the goal of La Compañía was “to establish a group of individuals dedicated to advancing Russian interests” through influence operations and disinformation aimed at undermining Argentina’s institutional stability.

SIDE emphasized that such activities not only infringe on Argentina’s sovereignty but also pose a threat to public discourse and the integrity of democratic institutions by distorting information and manipulating debate.

A government spokesperson stated that Argentina will not tolerate foreign interference of any kind.

The investigation is ongoing, and intelligence officials note that additional individuals may be implicated in the operation.
