More than 100 families of Russian servicemen addressed President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, with the demand to find their sons, husbands and brothers who disappeared in the war zone in Ukraine.
Relatives of the invaders claim they receive snide responses from Russian departments and ministries: some of them assert the soldiers are alive, the others insist the military disappeared or were killed.
The Russian correspondents of “Sever Realii” interviewed mothers and wives who have been trying for months to find and bring home their relatives from Ukraine.
106 people signed the petition.
One signature means one family of a Russian serviceman who either went missing, died, or is just located in the territory of Ukraine, where hostilities have been ongoing since February 24.
“We demand to find our relatives, add them to the lists of prisoners of war who have gone missing. Search operations are not underway as they are missing. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has been blocking the change in the status of servicemen for more than five months, despite the fact they have constantly updated information on the issue. Relatives have to look for facts and prove by themselves that their son or husband is in captivity or died — this happens throughout the country. The authorized bodies are doing their work poorly, there is no help from the commanders of the military units,” reads the letter.
The soldiers’ relatives also created several chats with the mothers of servicemen to help search for the wounded, dead or alive.
The chat consists of about 2.5 thousand military relatives.
“Disclosing the whole situation is, although dangerous, the only way to find out the truth about what is happening,” the relatives say.
As previously reported, the Russian military command began moving forcibly Russian soldiers who refused to fight to concentration camps.
According to Russian human rights activist Alexey Tabalov, one of the camps for such soldiers was created in the occupied Brianka settlement in the Luhansk region.
A similar camp for the Russian military was also created in the Kherson region.
