Russian drones entered the airspace of Romania and Moldova during a large-scale attack on Ukraine on the morning of November 25.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported this, and the Romanian Ministry of Defense has also confirmed it.
In addition to drones, Russia used various types of missiles to strike Ukrainian cities.
“Several Russian UAVs in the Odesa region near the border with Moldova, possible state border crossing,” the Air Force reported at 07:44 a.m.
Six minutes later, the military also noted that at least one Russian drone had likely crossed the border into Romania.
In the morning, Romania’s Ministry of Defense reported that military radars had detected an aerial target (a Russian UAV) heading toward the country’s airspace near Tulcea County, and at 06:28 a.m. two German Eurofighter Typhoon jets were scrambled from the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base to monitor the situation.
The drone crossed into Romanian airspace from the direction of Vylkove (Ukraine) toward the Chilia Veche area in Tulcea County.
At 06:55 a.m., a Ro-Alert warning was issued in the area of Tulcea County. At 07:11a.m., the Eurofighter Typhoon reported radar contact with the target over Ukrainian territory, outside Romania’s airspace.
Later, at 07:37 a.m., two F-16 fighter jets took off to respond to the situation, and at 07:48 a.m. a Ro-Alert was also issued for Galați County.
Already at 07:50 a.m., radars detected a second intrusion into Romanian airspace in the area of Galați County, and an F-16 had radar contact with it.
It is currently unknown whether the fighters or air-defense systems shot down any Russian drones over Romanian territory.
Russian drones have repeatedly violated the airspace of Romania and Moldova during strikes on Ukraine. For example, during the night of November 18–19, German and Romanian fighter jets were scrambled to intercept Russian drones that entered Romanian territory.
