In the Kherson region, the Ukrainian military targeted the ARK-1 Rys’ counter-battery radar.

The footage of the affected system was shown by analysts from the Ukrainian Deep State project.

A rare “beast” managed to hit the soldiers of the 406th Artillery Brigade on February 22.

It is reported that the radar was neutralized with the American M982 Excalibur precision projectile.

ARK-1 Rys’ was hit in the area of the village of Zavodivka located in the Kakhovsky district of the Kherson region.

As a legacy from the Soviet army, the Russian and Ukrainian military received 1RL239 ARK-1 Rys’ counter-battery radars.

The ARK-1 counter-battery radar system was adopted into the service in 1977.

Protection of its crew and equipment from small arms is provided by the chassis of the MT-LB armored tractor.

Rys’ radar was developed as a fully autonomous with onboard navigation, orientation, topography and communication system. All ARK`s equipment, units and mechanisms, except for two emitters and antennas for receiving signals, are located inside the hull.

With this equipment, artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began hostilities in 2014.

The beginning of the war showed the inconsistency of the tactical and technical characteristics of Soviet radars with modern requirements.

Analog components were difficult to integrate into the automated artillery fire control systems that volunteers began to build. Also, such radars do not meet the modern requirements of range and accuracy of detection of coordinates and reaction time.
