Russia Strikes Kharkiv With Iskander-K Missiles

Russia struck Kharkiv with three Iskander-K cruise missiles with HE-Frag warheads.

Spartak Borysenko, head of the department for countering crimes committed in the context of an armed conflict at the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, stated this.

According to him, the missiles were 9M727, as confirmed by photos of the wreckage that were later published.

Around 05:09 a.m. on April 18, a series of explosions occurred in the Osnovianskyi District of the city. An air raid alert was declared in Kharkiv at 05:07, writes Suspilne Kharkiv.

The debris and the effects of the strike suggest that the warheads of the Russian ballistic missiles exploded in the air to cover a larger area.

Currently, one fatality has been reported—a 79-year-old man who was in his apartment during the shelling. More than 60 people have been injured, including children. Several wounded locals are in serious condition.

The city council reported that as a result of the missile strike, more than 20 apartment buildings and over 30 private households had been damaged. A total of 3,084 windows were shattered in apartments, and another 405 in common areas.

The State Emergency Service of the Kharkiv region reported that as a result of the enemy missile strike, a fire had broken out at one of the civilian enterprises in the regional center.

“Damage was caused to multi-story residential buildings, an educational institution, and passenger cars. The roof of a two-story building, a workshop, and a structure at the enterprise caught fire, covering an area of about 450 square meters,” the rescuers’ report says.

As of 08:00 a.m., the fire was contained, and efforts to extinguish it are ongoing, along with emergency and rescue operations.

The photos of the debris published by the Prosecutor’s Office indicate that the Russians used 9M727 Iskander-K cruise missiles, equipped with HE-Frag warheads, for today’s morning shelling of Kharkiv.

On April 13, the Russians launched a terrorist ballistic missile attack on the city of Sumy, killing 35 people.
