The Minsk Wheeled Tractor Plant (MZKT) has signed a contract with the Moscow-based JSC Defense Systems to supply 30 specialized wheeled chassis.
This is evidenced by documents obtained by the Belarusian association BELPOL.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Russian customer is to receive 20 MZKT-8021-021 chassis, as well as five units each of the MZKT-8022-021 and MZKT-80211-021 models.
The contract is long-term and provides for equipment delivery through 2029.
The MZKT-8021/8022 series of specialized chassis was developed specifically to house components of the Pechora-2M air defense missile system.
In addition, these wheeled platforms also mount other air defense systems and radar stations.
The Russian joint-stock company Defense Systems specializes in developing, modernizing, and serially producing air defense and electronic warfare systems.
The company’s main and best-known project is the extensive modernization of Soviet short- and medium-range air defense systems of the Pechora series to the Pechora-2M and Pechora-2K standards, supplied to both the Russian Armed Forces and for export.
The size of the order indicates Russia’s intention to use Pechora-2M systems or air defense systems compatible with them.
Against the backdrop of a shortage of air defense capabilities, a return to Soviet-era systems is a practical step due to the availability of significant stockpiles of corresponding ammunition.
The system is a major upgrade of the S-125M air defense system and is designed to engage air targets at ranges from 3.5 to 32 km and at altitudes from 20 meters to 20 km.
In 2024, Belarus was to supply Russia with 18 MZKT-7930-312 chassis for producing Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft gun-missile systems.
