Russia launches 18 cruise missiles over Ukraine

On the night of Monday, May 1, Russia attacked Ukraine with air-launched cruise missiles.

A large-scale air raid alert was announced throughout Ukraine. People were urged to stay in shelters.

Russian Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers fired 18 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.

Ukrainian air defense worked against enemy air targets.

The Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that on May 1, 2023, around 2:30 a.m., the Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with strategic aircraft.

Nine Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers from Olenegorsk (Murmansk region) and two Tu-160s from the Caspian Sea area were involved in the missile attack on Ukraine.

A total of 18 Kh-101/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles were launched. The Ukrainian Air Force shot down 15 cruise missiles.

The air raid threat lasted for about three hours in Kyiv. The Russian invaders attacked in a complex manner – simultaneously with cruise missiles and drones. The Kyiv City Military Administration said that, according to preliminary data, air defense had shot down all Russian missiles and drones flying towards the capital of Ukraine. As of 6 a.m., according to operational reports, there were no casualties among the civilian population and no destruction of residential facilities or infrastructure.

As a result of the Russian missile attack on Dnipropetrovsk region, 25 people were injured, including three children. 7 missiles were shot down. But there were hits in the Pavlohrad district.

The Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Serhii Lysak reported that an industrial enterprise was damaged in Pavlohrad. As a result, a fire broke out, which was subsequently put out by the rescuers.

In the residential area, 19 high-rise buildings, 25 detached houses, 6 schools and pre-school education institutions, and 5 shops were reported to be severely damaged. Lysak also added that there was destruction in the communities of the district. Almost 40 residential buildings were damaged in Verbky community, and 2 in Yurivka community. In Mezhyrich community, a school was damaged. All services are working at the sites of the hits by the Russian missiles.
