Romania has chosen Quantum Systems to supply Vector reconnaissance drones under the EU SAFE program.
The company announced this to Militarnyi.
This contract is the first procurement under the SAFE program involving Quantum Systems.
The new agreement provides for the expansion of Romania’s existing fleet of Vector unmanned systems in the Armed Forces, while also strengthening Quantum Systems’ presence on the Romanian market.
The systems are expected to be used for tactical reconnaissance missions and will also complement the company’s ongoing industrial cooperation projects in the country.
In early April, the Polish company WB Group opened a subsidiary in Romania called WB Romania. The company later offered the Romanian side joint production of the Gladius reconnaissance-strike unmanned system.
It is also possible that WB Group was also competing for the Romanian contract under the SAFE program.
The Vector drone, developed by the German company Quantum Systems, is a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) reconnaissance UAV designed to operate in harsh weather conditions and directly in combat zones.
The aircraft has a wingspan of 2.8 meters, a length of 1.63 meters, and a maximum take-off weight of 7.2 to 7.5 kilograms, depending on the configuration.
Its flight endurance reaches up to 120 minutes, while its operational range is up to 15 kilometers using a standard antenna or up to 25 kilometers with a sector antenna.
The drone’s cruising speed ranges from 15 to 25 meters per second, equivalent to 54–72 km/h.
The maximum wind speed under which the Vector can operate is 12 m/s.
