Robotic Wolf: China Unveils New AS2-W UGV

The Chinese robotics company Unitree has unveiled its new Super Athlete AS2-W UGV.

The product is showcased on the manufacturer’s website.

The UGV can travel approximately 30 km on a single battery charge without a payload and about 25 km with a payload of up to 16 kg.

According to the developer, the 25 kg four-wheeled vehicle can support a payload of 150 kg while stationary.

A demo video shows the robot navigating complex terrain, including rocky slopes, and maintaining mobility after falling from high platforms.

The AS2-W features a high-performance AI module with a processing capacity of 150 TOPS (trillion operations per second) for real-time data processing directly on the device and is equipped with the autonomous ISS 3.0 navigation system, which provides centimeter-level positioning accuracy.

The design is notable for combining the ability of quadrupedal robots to adapt to terrain with wheeled mobility, highlighting a key trade-off in ground robotics: walking robots can navigate obstacles and uneven terrain, while wheeled systems are typically faster, simpler, and more efficient on flat surfaces.

The People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) has expressed interest in the product. The PLA especially used the UGV during the Chinese-Mongolian joint army training exercise Steppe Partner 2026 as a combat reconnaissance and fire support drone, which the Chinese refer to as ‘Robotic Wolves.’
