The Portuguese government will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine in 2025 as part of its commitments.

Portugal’s Minister of Defense, Nuno Melo, announced this.

According to him, Portugal will offer Ukraine €226 million in aid in 2025. This funding will be used not only for the direct provision of weapons but also for the purchase of other military equipment.

Furthermore, Portugal plays an active role in European initiatives, such as the Latvian-British drone coalition, to which the country contributed €52 million in 2024.

Portugal has also allocated funds for the Czech initiative to purchase artillery shells and has allocated €100 million for this purpose in 2024.

Overall, with the funds allocated by the Portuguese government, Ukraine has received:

  • Leopard 2A6 tanks;
  • M113 armored personnel carriers in various versions;
  • Ka-32 and SA-330 helicopters;
  • 60mm and 120 mm mortars and ammunition;
  • 105mm artillery and ammunition;
  • Equipment and winter clothing;
  • Firearms and grenade launchers;
  • Ammunition of various calibers.

Furthermore, Portugal is actively involved in supporting the training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots, being one of the first to announce its participation in the development of the program.

In May 2024, the President of Ukraine signed a bilateral security cooperation agreement with the Prime Minister of Portugal.

This 10-year Ukrainian-Portuguese agreement will pave the way for deeper collaboration between the two countries in both defense and economic sectors, bringing them closer together.

Portugal became the twelfth country with which Ukraine signed a security cooperation agreement designed to provide long-term support.

Militarnyi previously reported that TEKEVER, a Portuguese manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles, was modernizing its products based on the experience of a full-scale war in Ukraine.

According to the representative of the company, Ukraine is actively using AR3 and AR5 systems, which are constantly being improved thanks to feedback from Ukrainian specialists. The situation on the Russian-Ukrainian front line is the most difficult in the field of electronic warfare (EW) in history.

TEKEVER also cooperates with several Ukrainian manufacturers and has sponsored the “Machine Offensive 2.0” hackathon. The company is committed to support both Ukrainian and pan-European defense innovations.

Initially, the training of Ukrainian drone operators was conducted abroad, but over time, TEKEVER expanded its presence in Ukraine, focusing on operator training and technical support for drones.
